Jason Quigley believes he will rise to World Title path

Jason Quigley [16(12)-0] believes that stepping up in level will see him step up in performance and help him realise his world title goals.

It was confirmed yesterday evening that the Ballybofey middleweight will take on Bahamian veteran Tureano Johnson [20(14)-2(2)-1] in the headline fight of a Golden Boy card at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, on Thursday July 18th.

It is something of a perfect fight for Quigley who gets the chance to build on his #5 WBC ranking against his strongest opponent to date. Johnson has competed at a higher level that the Donegal man but Quigley should have too much for the tough 35-year-old – although it will require a big performance.

The 28-year-old will certainly need to show more than his previous Indio headline appearance where he was dragged into a war by Mexican Freddy Hernandez, a performance which drew criticism for some quarters

Last time out Quigley had a keep-busy win over Mathias Eklund in London and he is happy to be stepping back up in level.

“I’m excited because getting in the ring with these good fighters is going to make me perform even better,” said Quigley.

“Tureano Johnson is a great fighter. He’s a tall fighter, and he’s got the repertoire and the armoury.”

Aligned to the DAZN over-the-top streaming platform, Quigley shares his broadcast home with middleweight champions Canelo Alvarez and Demetrius Andrade alongside Kazakh kingpin Gennady Golovkin.

With plenty of money swirling around and names needed, a win next month could put Quigley right in the mix and he believes 2019 will be a huge year in his career..

Promising to rise to the occasion, the Finn Valley fighter outlined how “this is going to be a massive year for me so I’m looking to putting on a great performance.”

“We are focused on climbing the middleweight ladder, and we’re on the road now to world titles. That makes me excited.”

“I’m expecting a tough fight, and I hope he comes 110% prepared because I’m going to be 110% prepared.”
