“I’ve nothing to lose!” – Roe ready for Ireland’s Last Man Standing

Bernard Roe [6(1)-0] made the step up to six rounds at the weekend – but now wants to move immediately back down three.

The Dublin light middleweight outpointed Willie Warburton in a scrappy bout on the Celtic Clash 4 card and, with two fights in three months under his belt, is targeting Ireland’s Last Man Standing in March.

While he was moving up in rounds, there definitely was a feeling that the bout with the veteran English journeyman was almost a keep-busy for the former top underage amateur ahead of bigger things in 2018.

Discussing his bout with Warburton, Roe told Irish-Boxing.com how “all the videos I watched of him, in the first and second round you think ‘Jesus, he’s going to get stopped’. Then you watch the sixth or the eight, and he’s coming on strong”

“I felt it a bit. To be honest, I haven’t felt that bad in a while, I felt like shit. I think it as because of him, he was crafty.”

“Sixes and eights will suit me – even though that wasn’t the greatest of performances. I still think I have more to give in the later rounds.”

Sixes and eights will have to wait though – should things go to plan and Roe’s application is successful for the March 3rd tournament a the National Stadium.

Outlining his plans – and why he should be picked – Roe detailed how “I’ll take the Christmas off and hopefully I’ll be back in February or March – hopefully the Last Man Standing.”

“I’m an unbeaten prospect, I have it all to give, over three rounds I’ll be in exciting fights – and I’m Dublin as well, I’ll bring a big crowd.”

The Sheriff Street fighter boxes out of the Celtic Warriors Gym in Corduff, and coach Paschal Collins has Prizefighter previous which Roe believes will be of benefit in Ireland’s Last Man Standing.

Roe explained how “Paschal trained Jono [Carroll to win it and he trained Luke for it – and Luke would have won it if he hadn’t hurt his hand. Paschal has a way of training you for it.”

“I haven’t heard any names. It’s a winner takes all thing so it’s a big chance.”

“It would be different if I was on the verge of an Irish title or if I was further on in my career, but I’ve nothing to lose!”
