Irish revenge mission – Cillian Reardon looking to better Best on ‘He who Dares’ card

 

Cillian Reardon [5-0] could secure Irish fight fan revenge when he returns to the ring on October 25.

The Leinster Rugby coach is the latest name added to the ‘He Who Dares’ card and has been handed the step up in class he has been calling for.

Reardon will take on English man Jake Best [6-3(1)] on a card that also plays host to Olympian Darren O’Neill’s debut. 

‘Bionic Best’ is known on these shores for breaking the duck egg of Cavan light middleweight Owen Duffy.

The English fighter out worked and ultimately out pointed the popular ‘Butcher’ in Watford in March of this year.

The 34-year-old will now look to upset another Irish prospect as he takes on Reardon at the Devenish come October 25.

It’s exactly the kind of challenge the Steven O’Rourke trained Reardon has been calling for.

The Dublin fighter is Celtic Title keen and recently contacted Irish-boxing.com suggesting potential dance partner Graham McCormack wasn’t as keen as he was suggesting online.

“My interpretation of things is that he doesn’t want the fight,” the St Michaels Inchicore man said.

“What’s making me speak out is the continuous social media campaign where he is saying that he wants to fight me. I don’t know what to do. Owen Duffy also try to get him but, ostensibly, he ducked that as well.

“You can’t sign up to something just so you can have your next Twitter post but, when it comes time to pay the piper, you’ve no interest in getting in the ring.”

A title won’t be on the line against Best in Belfast and the match up isn’t quite as sexy as a Dublin Limerick domestic derby, but it’s an interesting step up nonetheless.

Best certainly represents the best the Stillorgan fighter has faced and on his day is a test for most at Reardon’s stage.

He also provides good passage toward a title fight with McCormack, which is becoming more tasty by the week.

The Irish English meeting joins a debut for O’Neill as well as fights for Paddy Nevin, Matthew Fitzsimons and another first timer Ruadhan Farrell on the Mickey Helliet Slater Sports card.
