Irish journeymen added to big Belfast BoxNation bill

Two Irish journeyman have been brought in for the big Belfast Boxnation card on Friday night.

Twelve fights feature on the big bill at the Waterfront Hall, and Queensberry have made the encouraging move to reach out to Alio Wilton to bring on board some of his tough stable of ‘away’ fighters for the Jamie Conlan-topped card.

Bangor light middleweight Casey Blair [4(0)-22(3)] to face English middleweight prospect Troy WIlliamson [2(1)-0]. ‘The Kid’ had been set to fight in Belfast last weekend at the Shorts Sports and Social Club but saw the fight fall through. In his last Belfast bout, back in November, Blair scored a rare win over Iranian Alireza Alimohammadi.

Then there is also an appearance for local light welter Jamesy Gorman [8(3)-35(3)]. ‘The Chin,’ a former BBBoC Northern Irish champion and Irish title challenger will face London-Connacht welter Gary Corcoran [15(6)-1(1)]. The bout is a return to the ring, and a move down in weight, for Corcoran following his Commonwealth title loss to Liam Williams last Summer.

While neither Gorman or Blair will be expected to win, it is good to see Irish fighters being used when journeymen are required, and it is an opportunity for the pair to box in front of a home support.

Tickets are available through the Waterfront Hall (CLICK HERE) or through the boxers themselves (which is the avenue we would recommend).
