Irish fighters added to Amir Khan undercard

Two Irish fighters will feature on the big Amir Khan card in Birmingham next month.

The former light welterweight champion continues his comeback on Saturday September at the Arena Birmingham with a fight versus Samuel Vargas.

Tonight it has been announced that former Elite amateurs Sean McComb [1(1)-0] and Steven Donnelly [1(0)-0] will both appear on the bill.

The Ulster pair both made their debuts on the big Windsor Park card in Belfast last night, with both scoring impressive wins.

Ballymena light middleweight Donnelly dominated the ultra-durable Kevin McCauley while Belfast lightweight Sean McComb impressively stopped Reynaldo Mora in the fourth round.

Double Commonwealth bronze medallist and Rio Olympian Donnelly described how it was “unbelievable, Amir was my favourite boxer growing up. I can not wait.”

While it is unlikely that they will be part of the televised portion of the Matchroom card, the level of activity is encouraging, with the duo now back in the ring for their second four rounder in three weeks.

Opponents for Donnelly and McComb will be confirmed in due time.

Also featuring on the undercard in three weeks time are Osman Aslam, Kieron Conway, Shakan Pitters, Qais Ashfaq, Lewis Ritson, Sam Eggington, and Gamal Yafai, while there is a British middleweight title rematch between Jason Welborn and Tommy Langford, a BBBoC Midlands Area light middleweight title fight between Ryan Kelly and Kelcie Ball, and a clash between Scott Fitzgerald and Craig Morris.

Khan, who is being built towards a domestic grudge match with former welterweight champ Kell Brook in Cardiff in December, recently spent some time sparring with Irish teenage welterweight Aaron McKenna [5(3)-0].
