Ireland to face Italy tonight in first of two Elite Internationals


A five-strong Irish Elite team will take on Italy twice over the next three days.

The young team flew out to Naples and will face Italy in the first of two internationals in the Campania region tonight.

The team features reigning Irish heavyweight champion Kirill Afanasev – who has scored three good international wins in recent months as well as welterweight runner-up Eugene McKeever who makes his Irish Senior debut having been unable to travel on the U.S. tour in March.

Two-time super heavyweight runner-up Thomas Carty is back representing Ireland following a good win in South Africa recently and is joined by Glasnevin team-mate Jordan Moore who won his Irish senior debut last month versus India.

Finally there is also a spot for Limerick welterweight phenom Paddy Donovan who won his Irish debut in March, beating Panamerican silver medallist Quinton Randall.

Fight Night #1 (June 7th ) in Torre Annunziata. Boxing begins at 18:30 Irish time.
Fight Night #2 (June 9th) in Acciaroli, Boxing begins at 19:00 Irish time.
