Introducing: John Joyce

Soldier John Joyce is ready to go to war on the first ‘It’s A-Bout Boxing Ireland’ card.

The latest addition to the pro ranks is the first confirmed fighter signed to the promotional company that has its roots in FS Promotions.

The 29 year old is only boxing four years but, after a relatively brief amateur career, is keen to get going in the pro ring.

Joyce has been working toward a debut and has invested time in changing his style since August under the guidance of Tony Davitt, and is expected to debut in March after collecting his pro licence this week.

“I only started boxing four years ago. I fought at Intermediate level as an amateur. I had a few setbacks over the years and a few injures. Last year I decided to turn pro and I teamed up with Tony [Davitt],” Joyce told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I am in the army so I had to do six months with recruits then I got married so I only really got fully focused on it after my honeymoon in August,” he continued before explaining how much work he has had to do to adapt.

“I thought I had a pro style, but there was a lot of work to do in regard to getting ready for the pros and getting used to the changes. It’s a slower pace and you sit down on your punches more. Tony has been great and I have really enjoyed the training.”

Joyce will be a relative unknown to Irish fight fans, but he is confident he will have an exciting enough style and he is hopeful he can make an impact domestically over the next few years.

“The fans can expect a medium to close range boxer who loves a body shot. I love a body shot!”

“I hope to progress as quick as possible, stay busy and maybe fight for an Irish title down the line.”

“I will be working with It’s A Bout Boxing and my debut will be on their first show this year.”
