“I’m not Superman” – Lewis Crocker cools big knockout expectation

Lewis Crocker enters the pro ranks with a good deal of hype in tow. A rare breed of amateur that already has a knockout highlight reel that most pros would be proud off.

However, the 20 year old is keen to point out he hasn’t got a red cape, or superhuman powers and, while he is confident in his abilities, he won’t respond to pressure to take out his first pro foe in double-quick time this coming Friday.

The youngster fights without a vest for the first time against Ferenc Jarko at the Waterfront Hall on Friday night and admits he is fielding a host of KO requests in the lead up to the bout.

“There is pressure. Everyone is coming up to me saying knockout this, knockout that. If it comes, it comes. I’m not Superman, but I am pretty confident in my ability and I will get the win,” he told Irish-Boxing.com before revealing his tender age means he can ease his way into the game.

“I just turned 20 and have a lot of years ahead of me, so I am in no rush at all. I will aim for British level over the next few years, then European and World. I will just take it as it comes.”

It’s all relatively amicable and tame from a confident fighter with a good reputation, but he couldn’t resist a little bit of a dig when discussing his opponent.

“He has one fight and one win. He is 20 years old like myself. I don’t know much more about him other than his record, but I’ll be taking his 0 on Friday no doubt about that. People can expect a  good performance from me.

There was a bit of excitement around Belfast today as a fight night that includes bouts for established name Jamie Conlan, amateur legend Paddy Barnes as well as all Irish clashes between Declan Geraghty and James Tennyson and Tyrone McKenna and Jake Hanney.

The Ray Ginley-trained Frank Warren fighter is enjoying a build-up very different to any amateur fight, but ‘The Croc’ claims he is calmer than ever before a dust up.

“I am buzzing at the minute. Fight week is great and there is a great atmosphere. I am just looking forward to Friday now.

“It’s completely different [to the lead up to an amateur fight]. I am actually a lot more calm going into this one. I have really put in the work for the last number of months and weeks so I am ready and looking forward to getting in the ring.”
