‘I wouldn’t be afraid to say it’s a step too far’ – Sean McComb comfortable in the fast lane

Sean McComb [8(4)-0] isn’t afraid of boxing heights and is quite content to continue his fast ascent up the boxing ladder.

The Belfast prospect has blazed an impressive early trail and has increased the level of opposition at an unusually face pace in 2019.

Former British title challenger Troy James came first and was beaten in just ‘The Public Nuisance’s’ sixth fight.

Miroslav Serban followed and having dropped Paul Hyland Jr in Belfast previously was being sold as a dangerous test. However the Czech brawler lasted less than a round.

McComb then took another significant step up the ladder and took on gatekeeper Renald Garrido a lot early than a host of well known names did.

That ended in a brilliant performance and a one sided points victory at Féile an Phobail.

Emiliano Dominguez Rodriguez [23(9)-5(0)] is meant to represent the next step up. The Argentine has 23 wins to his name, but it has to be noted the majority of his wins played out in his home country – and as such little is known of him.

Regardless, the 27 year-old southpaw is expecting a step up  on the #MTKFightNight, live on ESPN+  and IFL TV and is more than happy to take it.

“I have a good boxing brain and I know I’m more than ready. If it was a step too far, I wouldn’t be afraid to say it’s a step too far. I believe the management is doing a brilliant job,” he said.

The Holy Trinity graduate goes into the clash on the back of an assured potential confirming win over tough French opponent Garrido.

However, despite another comfortable step win claims there are still things to build on.

“We made a few mistakes against Garrido. Silly errors. I’m glad I did because it gives me things to work on back in camp. I stood and fought with him for too long and that’s something I need to work on.

“I also threw five or six punches when I could’ve thrown one or two and moving off. When you go up the levels, picking the selections right and not standing for too long is important.”

“It’s in the past now and it’s done. It’s time to put it behind me and heading back to Ulster Hall. It’s all about pushing forward on my career.”

McComb stars on a bill that also includes a crucial high-class flyweight collision between Jay Harris and local hero Paddy Barnes, IBF European king Marco McCullough defending his crown against Viorel Simion, hotly-anticipated debuts for Paddy Donovan and Pierce O’Leary and much more.
