Eugene McKeever would love to set up a 69kg final with Aidan Walsh with victory over Callum Walsh tonight.

The Holy Family Drogheda fighter was another who showed the scene what he was about on Saturday when he defeated Michael Bustard of the Dockers club by a 5-0 unanimous decision.

However, it was Aidan Walsh who grabbed the 69kg headlines on Saturday as he defeated reigning champion Keiran Molloy to become the one to watch out for in a stacked division.

Being the last of a full roster of welterweight quarter finalists in action, McKeever managed to take in Walsh’s performance and was impressed.

“I caught a bit of Walsh vs Molloy and it was a great fight, but I didn’t get to see the others so I haven’t much to say on them.

“[Walsh] was very good, I don’t think that Walsh suited Molloy’s style and I think that’s why he got it done tonight,  great performance and great lad.”

After such a victory, Walsh may become the man to avoid, but the Louth fighter is more than keen to trade leather with the recent International vest wearer.

“I would love to fight Walsh,” he added. “He’s a great fighter but I’m not here for second best in this competition, I’ve put a lot of work in and I’m here to win this”

McKeever put his opponent down in the final seconds of the fight and when asked about his power he said: “Every fight I’m either putting someone down or getting a count, The power is there I’m just not going looking for the knockout shot, If it comes it comes.”

Both Walsh and McKeever are in semi final action tonight. Monkstown’s Walsh takes on young talent Ryan O’Rourke of St Michaels Dublin, while
Callum Walsh of Riverstown is the man in against Eugene McKeever.
