‘I say lets go’ – Amanda Serrano targets Katie Taylor after collecting ninth world title

Amanda Serrano  [37(27)-1(0)-1] says she is ready to defeat Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] at whatever weight the Irish fighter wants.

The Brooklyn resident claimed her ninth world title with victory over tough Irish American Heather Hardy in New York on Friday night, registering a win that should set up a massive Taylor fight.

In fairness, so entertaining and well supported was last weekends bout, that post victory the seven weight world champion didn’t get the volume of Katie Taylor questions initially expected post fight – journalists present seemed content to reflect on what turned out to be fight of the night.

Nor did the Puerto Rican aggressively call out the unified lightweight world champion – potentially aware she has just proven she has the pulling power to be a New York bill topper in her own right.

However, when asked about the potential ‘Mega Fight,” Serrano was confident and keen.

“I say lets go, but Katie Taylor is going up to 140lbs so lets see what she wants to do. No matter where it is at or what weight I am going to win,” She told DAZN after her victory.

Speaking to press after the chief support bout Serrano was also keen to point out that herself and her fellow Brooklyn puncher had sold the most tickets. Serrano and Hardy were the heartbeat of the promotion she claimed and it’s something she hopes Matchroom, who promote Taylor and have close working relationship via DAZN with Serrano, took note of.

“I hope Eddie Hearn and Matchroom saw that this card was built around Heather Hardy Amanda Serrano. We can sell tickets and we can put on a show and I hope everyone saw that. ”

When discussing a potential fight with the Irish sensation, a fight that some are now billing as the ‘greatest women’s match up of all time’, ‘The Real Deal’s’ coach and manager was more vocal.

True to form Jordan Maldonado, who is also married to Serrano’s sister Cindy, a fighter Taylor out pointed in 2018, didn’t hold back when discussing his charge.

Maldonado claimed they were willing to fight, but only if the price was right – and despite claims a deal was agreed pre the Hardy win, the manager and coach is calling for more talks.

“There are two ways to get out of the fight. One you just don’t want it or two you don’t give us enough money. Believe me when I tell you we were offered less money than Rose Volante and Delfine Persoon, but yet it’s being built as a super fight,” he said to press on Friday.

“If it’s a super fight then put up the money. Lets make it happen. We want that fight.”

Maldonado also suggested DAZN haven’t paid as much attention to Serrano as they have Taylor.

“We are ready to go to Ireland or wherever, we are willing to do it at whatever weight. Listen (Amanda) fought 35 seconds in January and they didn’t give us another fight for another seven or eight months. They are not doing that to (Katie) she is constantly fighting every couple of months. People do shit like that for a reason. Lets make it happen.”
