“I don’t think it should happen” – Carl Frampton warns against Whyte-Chisora PPV date clash

While competition is good, Carl Frampton has warned against a head-on promotional battle.

‘The Jackal’ challenges Josh Warrington for his IBF featherweight title in Manchester on a BT Sport Box Office card on Saturday December 22nd and claims he will be annoyed if Eddie Hearn and Matchroom run with Dillian Whtye versus Dereck Chisora on the same night.

Hearn has stated a desire to make the heavyweight rematch for the same Christmastime date and wants to have it in London at the O2 Arena on Sky Sports Box Office.

However, despite strong rumours, the clash has yet to be officially agreed – while a Dillian Whyte v Luis Ortiz bout on the same date, presumably not on PPV, has also been suggested.

If a fight night is announced on the same date Frampton claims the fans, fighters, and sport will be caught in the cross fire of two battling promoters.

“If it did happen it would annoy me a little bit,” the fighter who has had Hearn issues before explained to the Daily Express.

“But I just have to focus on my fight. What I would be annoyed about is nobody wins in that situation. It’s just a contest between promoters.”

“The fighters don’t win, the fans don’t win, it just doesn’t do our sport any good. As a boxer and boxing fan, I don’t think it should happen.”

Again, Hearn hasn’t confirmed the fight night and, considering the level of promotion Sky and Matchroom would like to put into the heavyweight match-up, the fights clashing looks less likely as the days and weeks progress.

Hearn himself has said that pitting one against the other isn’t ideal but claims there are no other dates available for a PPV showdown and that Warrington-Frampton doesn’t offer substantial threat to dissuade him from going on December 22nd.

Indeed, the Matchroom boss believes a Whyte-Chisora fight could out-sell Frampton-Warrington twenty times.
