Huge step-up next for Ciaran McVarnock against KO artist

Belfast super feather Ciaran McVarnock [6(1)-0-1] will take a massive step up in class in his next fight.

‘Bunty’ was initially scheduled to appear on the undercard of the Liam Williams v Ahmet Patterson and Chris Eubank Jr v Tommy Langford double header in Cardiff on October 22nd, but he has now been handed a much bigger slot on another card. McVarnock will now fight on the annual Frank Warren dinner show at the Mayfair Hilton Hotel in London on Monday October 24th, and he has revealed that he will step up to eight rounds to face a fellow undefeated prospect.

The Manchester-based 24 year old will take on Birmingham’s Raza Hamza [4(4)-0-1] at the Motorpoint Arena next month. A big puncher, all four of Hamza’s wins have come via first round stoppage and he poses an extremely dangerous test for McVarnock.

Both fighters are promoted by Frank Warren, and the bout could be seen as something of a sink-or-swim affair for the duo.

First however, Hamza faces a fight with journeyman Joe Beeden – a former McVarnock opponent – on September 23rd.

Should McVarnock win next month, he will immediately move into Irish title contention and a fight with another fellow Warren fighter, James Tennyson, would become a real possibility.
