Hot stepper – Sean McComb takes another step up in February

Step up master Sean McComb [9(4)-0] will continue his relatively rapid ascent up the levels when he returns to the ring on February 1.

McComb is the first of the fighters confirmed on the #MTKFightNight to have an opponent confirmed.

‘The Public Nuisance’ will tackle Argentina’s Mauro Maximiliano Godoy [32(17)-5(2)-1] in Belfast in just his tenth fight.

Godoy is the second successive Argentine the Belfast fighter faces at the Ulster Hall.

The 27-year-old out pointed Emiliano Dominguez Rodriguez at the intimate venue in September.

McComb registered some of the most impressive early victories in terms of Irish fighters in recent years. He all but breezed his way up the ladder by and cemented his status as one of the countries brightest prospects with comfortable wins over Troy James, Miroslav Serban and French favourite Renald Gardio all before he reached double figures.

Rodriguez proved a fighter capable of asking the southpaw questions, but they were questions he produced the answer for and thus continues his step up policy on the first fight Irish fight night of 2020.

The Argentine duo’s record in terms of numbers isn’t overly dissimilar, but McComb’s February 1 opponent has more experience, looks to carry a knockout threat and has shared the ring with some decent opponents.

The Neuquen native has a respectable 17 stoppages to his name and has been in the ring with former Amir Khan and Danny Garcia foe Samuel Vargas.

Indeed, he drew with the Canadian based Colombian and two of his five loses have come against Kazakh prospect Zhankosh Turarov and soon to be European title challenger Sandor Martin are two of his five defeaters.

It’s certainly another test for McComb, but another chance to impress live on ESPN+ and iFLTV.

Also already confirmed for a big night of boxing are Steven Donnelly, Gary Cully, Padraig McCrory, Dee Sullivan, Callum Bradley, Ruairi Dalton, Pierce O’Leary and Taylor McGoldrick.

Lightweight Cully could top the bill if his proposed Irish title fight with BUI Celtic Champion Joe Fitzpatrick is confirmed.
