History maker Connolly makes explosive start to pro life

ANTHONY Connolly made Irish boxing history in style in Australia on Saturday.

The Dubliner became the first ever minimum weight profesional from Ireland when he entered the ring to trade leather with Payak Sithpajuk in the Kingsway Indoor Stadium, Madeley in Western Australia.

However, the 7.5 stone minimum weight campaigner displayed maximum power en route to a first round stoppage win.

‘Irish Bhoy’ dropped his Thai foe with a short right hand delivered from the ropes before going in for the kill and ending proceedings with a flurry just 1:58 seconds into his debut.

Considering he operates a sparsely populated weight  Conolly’s promoters Eight Counts Promotions expect him to move up the rankings very quickly and will be targeting a Pan Asian title shot for him after a number of fights.
