Heart and attacks- Larry Fryers promises guts and action in the Garden tonight

Heart is going to be the defining factor in a fight that could change the career of Larry [11(4)-191)] Fryer’s tonight (Friday) according to the Monaghan man himself.

Fryers takes faces New Yorker Wesley Ferrer [13(7)-1(0)-1] on the undercard of the Devin Haney v Zaur Abdullaev WBC lightweight title final eliminator in the famous Felt Forum fully aware a win and another eye catching performance could help with regard to him becoming a Matchroom USA regular.

The New York based Ulsterman notes that victory won’t come easy live on Sky Sports and DAZN and admits his latest pro fight is one of the 50/50 variety.

With that in mind he predicts proceedings will be less about skill and more about will, meaning desire and determination will decide the victor.

“It’s a massive opportunity for me. A win here will put me in a great position for my next fight,” Fryers told Irish-boxing.com before he weighed in.

“I see this as a 50/50 fight, every fight in my eyes is a 50/50, as anything can happen in boxing. Still I think the winning of this fight for me is in the heart. It’s about who’s got the bigger heart and who’s willing to put everything into this fight from the first bell to the last bell.”

The 29-year-old certainly showed heart last time out. After being dropped twice in the first round of a Murphys Boxing promoted fight, which was initially meant to be against Ray Moylette, Fryers recovered to win in the most dramatic of knockout fashions.

The suggestions are the manner of that Summer performance, albeit against much lower opposition, ensured he secured a slot on such a high profile Matchroom USA card – and with that in mind the Clones fighter is determined not only to win, but to look good doing so in New York tonight.

“I think it’s important to put on a performance so I can show people what I can do. In saying that a win is a win at the end of the day and that’s what I’m going for, but if I can do it nicely all the better.”

There is a real air of excitement emitting from the American based Irish fighter. There isn’t any sign of pressure related stress and ‘Lethal’ is adamant he is going out to enjoy himself on the bigger stage.

“I am feeling great. I can’t wait for this one. All the hard work is done and come fight night I’m going to go out there and have fun. I have no prediction other than people should just be prepared for an all action performance as usual from me. I’m blessed fan wise. I’ll have a big crowd there supporting me. Over 200 when we last checked yesterday and I will give them something to shout about.”

Although at times you get a real sense of innocent excitement of the entertainer leading into this fight, he has worked hard in preparation for a tough clash with major career ramifications.

He also had the added bonus of having former world champion Chris Algieri as a sparring partner.

“Me and Chris have known each other for over a year now. We got to know each other when his coach reached out to me to get some sparring in and from that we have kept it up,” he said of the pairs gym sessions.

“The work with him is top class I couldn’t of asked for better work in the build up to this fight.”
