Don’t Poke The Jackal – Jamie Moore believes Luke Jackson has made a “big mistake”

Jamie Moore has warned Luke Jackson that he will pay for poking the bear.

Carl Frampton’s trainer believes the Aussie will regret his apparent attempts to get under the skin of ‘The Jackal’ within the first round of their Windsor Park clash this weekend.

Frampton puts his WBO interim featherweight belt on the line against the organisation’s #5 and Tasmanian Jackson, although he claims his words have been twisted, has sent repeated verbal jabs from Down Under.

The Manchester coach, who was himself an Irish champion, claims the ‘overweight’ or ‘past his best’ jibes haven’t unsettled his fighter and warns that Jackson’s pre-fight tactics will have anything but the desired effect.

“Carl might be throwing out little comments about Jackson saying: ‘Luke Jackson is talking rubbish’.”

“On the night, once the ringwalks are done and the reality hits Luke Jackson, he’s going to realise that he’s made a big mistake,”  said Moore, who also looks after Steven Ward and Conrad Cummings who face Stevie Collins and Nicky Jenman respectively on the same bill.

While Moore suggests the two-weight world champion will exact some retribution he is adamant Frampton will remain focused on the job at hand rather than going wild with rage.

“Luke Jackson hasn’t made it any better for himself by antagonising Carl in little ways. Even though Jackson might be thinking he can antagonise him to the point Carl will lose his head, you’ve never met a more mentally stronger fighter than Carl Frampton.”

The example of Chris Avalos has been trotted out numerous times – with the American having annoyed Frampton ahead of their February 2015 clash before being thoroughly dominated by an inspired Jackal at the Odyssey Arena.

There are similarities in the cases – although Avalos was a much higher-rated opponent – but Moore notes how the trash talk this time isn’t serving Frampton with any added motivation.

There is none needed for the Belfast 31-year-old as Moore explains how “Carl didn’t need any more motivation because it’s Windsor Park – a dream he’s had all his life.”
