Hanney: That was the best punch of my career- now to secure a title

JAKE Hanney landed the perfect punch in front of the perfect people to 3-0 in style on Friday.

The Dubliner is confident he made a statement and re grabbed the attention of fight fans and promoters after a frustrating ring sabbatical when he stopped Jye Solomon with the best punch of his fledgling pro career.

Indeed, the light welterweight is now hoping the win and the fashion in which it came will help secure him a shot at a first career title come November.

“We had been working in that punch in the gym . We new he liked to drop his head in the exchanges  and straight from the get go I could see it . In the third I started to loosen up and faint the jab . After a coupe I fainted again he dropped his head and I stepped in with a right uppercut -and that was it!

“I knew it was over the second it landed. It’s probably the best shot I landed since I turned pro,” Hanney told Irish-boxing.com.

It might have been the perfect punch, but it also came in front of the perfect spectators claims the FBI Gym fighter.

“There was a good few boxing people watching the fight. People of note that are high up and can pull strings. I was glad we made a statement in front of them. I wasn’t long out of the ring and I had people coming up asking me about sponsorship and what way to get behind me? So that’s always good,” he added before discussing whats next.

“A (New South Wales) title fight what we are talking about now. Hopefully the promoter can get it for the show in November . I was talking to him today he said he was on it .The show is going to be a all Ireland show, which Gerry Clancy and TJ Dotheny will also be on so it should be a great nights action.”
