Geraghty: don’t be surprised if my home debut ends early

SPARING with ‘The Captain’ ensured Declan Geraghty is in prime position to boss his opponent as he makes his Irish debut on Saturday night.

The former Irish amateur international and Senior Champion fights for the second time as a pro, but for the first time as a paid fighter on home soil in the Holiday Inn in Belfast.

The Dubliner claimed an impressive debut victory in Leeds last month, despite effectively fighting with one hand tied behind his back and is confident he can register another eye catching performance in Belfast this weekend.

The MGM lightweight always holds confident air, but claims sharing the sparring rind with Team GB London 2012 boxing team Captain and now gym mate Tom Stalker ahead of his clash with Renato Toth (2-16-2) has given him an added boost.

I’ve being sparring Tom Stalker who’s being great for me. He’s won so much as a amateur, World and European medals and is a proven talent. Our spars have been like wars and have really helped in preparation for this fight,” Geraghty told Irish-boxing.com.

“Everyone (in Macklin’s Gym Marbella) is trying to bring each other on in what ever way we can, which is great. It’s a big family and we all get looked after by our team. Personally my camp has gone great, I’m in great shape physically and mentally so can’t wait to get out and fight.”

‘Pretty Boy is not just excited about trading leather for a second time in a month, he is eager to show his fight fans what he can do in a homecoming of sorts.

“It’s great to be boxing in Ireland and there’s lots from Dublin coming to Belfast watch me so l can’t wait to put a show on for everyone. My two hands are great so that’s always good. As usual I will box and if the KO comes it comes, but I’m hitting hard so don’t be surprised if l get him out early.”
