Gearoid Clancy – I’m 32, I can’t wait around and fight lesser opponents

Gearoid Clancy of Oughterard, now based in Sydney with Bondi Boxing Club, will take on Kiwi Boxer Nort Beauchamp at Club Punchbowl just outside Sydney on Saturday

The ten round-bout will be for the WBF International lightweight title, and provides one of the main supports to headliner and fellow Irishman Darragh Foley who looks to exact revenge over Joebert De Los Reyes.

Clancy [5(1)-3(0)] comes into the bout off the back of a loss in his rematch with Brandon Saunders back in March, and is electing to go straight back into a tough fight against Beauchamp [9(2)-1(0)]
.
The Galway man explained that “I am keen to get up the rankings and make it into the top 15 so I can challenge for titles.”

“This is another stepping stone for me and I am not afraid to take on fights.”

“At 32 I can’t wait around and fight lesser opponents, my last fight was my first 10 rounder and I have learnt a lot from that experience.”

Clancy is confident that he can get back to winning ways following the disappointing defat to a man he had beaten four months previously. He described how “I have changed things around in my training and prep work and really feel that these changes will help me in my upcoming bout.”

“My opponent is a southpaw so I have also been sparring a lot against other southpaws, but to tell you the truth I don’t overthink this too much either.”

“The training I have had under coach Tony Del Vechio has been great and have put in a lot of rounds sparring.”

“I’m looking forward to this bout and I’m really excited as I feel that I learnt a lot from last time.”
