Michael Sweeney believes his brother will liven up the division

Speaking in the wake of the much maligned fight former Irish cruiserweight title challenger Michael Sweeney claims the division is missing his brother Gary.

The retired puncher revealed his brother is itching to return and bring some entertainment to what looks a very interesting division at present.

“Looking at what was meant to be the the best fight in the division at British or Irish level last weekend, Askins v Oklie it was terrible. I believe what’s missing is Sweeney,” Michael Sweeney told Irish-boxing.com.

“Gary is a big puncher he wants to and will bring excitement to cruiserweight division again.”

The Galway Sweeney- Michael always represented Rosscommon in the ring- made an explosive start to his pro career. After four straight knockout wins from his first four fights genuine excitment started to build around the 24 year old.

However, injury has prevented him from building on that start in 2018. His brother explains he has an operation to amend all issued early next month and points out the undefeated prospect is itching to get back in the ring.

“Gary has the operation on October 2nd, please god all goes well, then he can get back doing what he does best. He only has had four fights to date and can’t wait to get back into the ring again. Gary developed a abecess in has tail bone in 2014 and it got worse. He was unable to train,so getting it out of the way now means he can get back out again 2019 fully fit and ready to do damage. I have to say he can’t thank his team MTK Global for there faith in him.”
