FULL FIGHT: Frankie Gavin v Sam Eggington – FOTY contender

Top Pro Gif Ad
Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington went to war last night in a Birmingham grudge match which headlined the Matchroom ‘Bragging Rights’ show at the Barclaycard Arena.

The fight was predicted to be a clash of styles, and indeed it was early on with the skills of former Irish champion Gavin prevailing, but it descended into a fire-fight and Eggington would eventually score an eighth round stoppage.

Gavin, often described as a boring fighter, played his part in a Fight of the Year contender, touching down in the third and taking a standing count in the sixth but still showing serious guts and fighting back off the ropes throughout.

However, the greater engine and conditioning of ‘The Savage’ seemed to eventually tell against 31 year old Gavin, a fighter known not to lead a professional lifestyle in terms of diet.

2007 World Amateur champ Gavin drops to 23(14)-3(2) with the loss while Eggington, who is still just 23 years old, moves to 19(11)-3(0).
