Frampton trains his sights on Cruz -The Jackal wants WBC champ next

HE disposed of the No 1 ranked contender in sensational fashion and now Carl Frampton wants the champion.

‘The Jackal’ has trained his sights on WBC belt holder Leo Santa Cruz stating he wants the Golden Boy puncher next after disposing of Hugo Cazares in two rounds last night.

Frampton is mandatory for the Mexican-American world champion, but there are a lot of negotiations to be had before the fight can be made.

A venue will have to be agreed upon and Golden Boy, Cruz’s promoters might want to introduce Frampton to the American fight fans on the undercard of one of their shows before making the bout.

Not to mention Cruz has stated he wants his next fight to be in September while Frampton is keen on a summer ring return.

It is a matter of when and not if the pair will be meet, but Frampton is hoping to challenge for Cruz’s title in his next bout.

Frampton said of his fight last night

“It was a great performance and a one-punch knock-out of a guy who hadn’t been stopped since 1999.

“It felt good, so onwards and upwards. I’m mandatory for Leo Santa Cruz now. He’s a great fighter and someone that I admire but I want that fight now and I hope we can do some work and get that pretty soon.

“The support I get from Belfast and all over Ireland is second to none. I’m very humble and very grateful to everyone who comes out and pays their hard-earned money to come and watch me so hopefully I’ll do the same when I get Santa Cruz.”
