Frampton reveals possible fight date return and venue

Carl Frampton is back in camp as of today.

‘The Jackal’ is back in Manchester with Jamie Moore working toward an August date.

During his trip to Belfast to announce the August 3 fight between Michael Conlan and old Olympic foe Vladimir Nikitin Frampton’s new promoter Bob Arum listed a number of potential return dates for the former two weight world champion.

The Top Rank boss revealed Frampton will “fight, I think, in Boston.”

“He was supposed to fight August 3rd but now we’re looking for an arena on either the 10th of August or the 24th.”

“We have another fight on the 17th so it will be on the 10th, hopefully, or, at the very worst, on the 24th.”

Whilst attending the Ulster Hall hosted return of Ryan Burnett on Friday the Belfast favourite elaborated further. Frampton whittled his possible return down to two dates and confirmed his first fight this year will play out on the East Coast of America.

“I am looking to fight in August there have been a couple of dates mentioned. The 10th of August and the 23rd of August potentially as well. I am hoping to get one of them over the line pretty soon. I am looking forward to getting going again, it’s going to be on the East Coast somewhere, big American fights what more do you want.”

The fight will be Frampton’s fourth in America and first since his WBA featherweight title loss to still-champion Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas back in January 2017.

Boston, like New York where Frampton initially dethroned Santa Cruz, is a city with a large population of Irish and Irish-Americans.

In terms of opposition, there is an opponent in sight.

The fight will be Frampton’s first since his December loss to IBF champion Josh Warrington.

Afterwards he had hinted at retirement but the 32-year-old has elected to box on and looks to be being built towards a clash with WBO champ and new Top Rank stablemate Óscar Valdez.
