Frampton: The Only man I want is Scott Quigg

HAVING taken care of Kiko Martinez to become World champion Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton has a mouthwatering potential victim hit list, but the Belfast star has arch rival Scott Quigg in his immediate and lethal sites.

Names like WBC champion and American draw Leo Santa Cruise, WBA champion Gullerimo Rigondeaux, mandatory for his IBF title Chris Avalos and even Abner Mares have all be mentioned.

Manager Barry McGuigan claims Santa Cruz is top of his wish list, but  Frampton, who according to legendary Irish boxing writer Gerry Callan’s records became Ireland’s 20 World champion last night, wants Quigg.

“The only man I want to fight is Scott Quigg,” said the Belfast fighter after his unanimous points victory.

However, Frampton warned Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn that any offers have to reflect the fact that he is a ‘legitimate’ World champion and the draw.

“I’ll fight him in Manchester, I’ll fight him anywhere. What Eddie Hearn  needs to remember is I’m the one with the legitimate belt.”

“I’m the one who brings the fans,” added Frampton, while his manager Barry McGuigan said: “Scott Quigg will draw 800 people in Bury. We had to build an arena to fit in all Carl Frampton’s fans.”

Frampton, who is as big a draw as he is a puncher, is mandated to fight  24-year-old Californian Chris Avalos within 90 days. The mandatory challenger has teamed up with Eddie Hearn, a promoter Frampton joked was like an ex girlfriend that won’t go away, and it is rumoured he will pay the American step aside money so he can make Frampton Quigg in Manchester this December.
