Former Quigg, Selby and Stevenson foe up next for Marco McCullough

Marco McCullough [22(12)-4(3)] will be afforded the chance to make comparisons to some elite level known names when he fights in Belfast on October 11.

The Belfast fighter will take on Viorel Simion [22(9)-3(1)] on the undercard of Paddy Barnes clash with undefeated European and Commonwealth flyweight champion Jay Harris on what promises to be an exciting Ulster Hall hosted #MTKFightNight.

Simion has competed at elite level in his career, having shared the ring with Lee Selby, Scott Quigg and Shakur Stevenson.

The Romanian lost all three of those bouts, but it has to be noted those defeats against high end operators are the only blotches on his record.

Indeed he brought former world champions Quigg and Selby the distance and soon to be world title challenger Stevenson received massive praise for stopping the now 37-year-old as recent as October of last year.

Simion may not be on the ascent as a fighter or prospect, but still represents a noteworthy step up for the former British title challenger.

Win the fight, which seems to come as reward for his stoppage victory over Declan Geraghty last time out, and the former Irish champion will progress further up the ladder.

The bout which will be broadcast live online via ESPN+ and IFL TV could prove to be just one of a number of exciting clashes on the card.

As well as an intriguing Continental level fight for Olympic hero Barnes rising star Sean McComb takes another step up against Emiliano Dominguez Rodriguez.

The likes of Belfast’s Lewis Crocker, Kildare’s Gary Cully and Dublin’s Pierce O’Leary will also appear as will Sean Duffy and Callum Bradley.

More names are rumoured to be announced soon.
