Fighter Favourites: ‘The Ginger Ninja’ Chris Blaney

We try to start the week off here with a look at some of the favourites of top Irish boxers.

This week is no different, and we hear from Navan middleweight Chris Blaney [6(3)-0].

A ten-time amateur champion and current pro under Ricky Hatton, ‘The Ginger Ninja’ knows his stuff.

Q: Favorite Current Fighter?
A: My favourite current fighter would have to Canelo Alvarez – he’s just an all around beast and I think he’s the man to beat Triple G Gennady Golovkin.

Q: Favourite Fighter of All Time?
A: Favourite fighter of all time will have to be Ricky Hatton. I think everybody loved Ricky growing up and to get the chance to train in his gym was incredible – and now to be trained by him is just a dream come true.

Q: Favourite Irish Fighter?
A: I think that would have to be Katie Taylor for everything she’s done as an amateur and now as a professional, it is unbelievable

Q: Favourite Fight?
A: My favourite fight is definitely Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward, hands down the best fights I’ve ever seen in my life.

Q: Favourite of your own Fights?
A: Favourite fight of my own is probably the first time I moved up to 75kg and went to a Multi nations with Ireland [Vojvodina Golden Gloves Youth Multi-Nations]. I stopped a two-time Russian world champion [Andrey Egorov] and won best boxer of the tournament.
