Eva Wahlström believes pro format will enable Katie Taylor revenge

Eva Wahlström [22(3)-0-1] claims the pro set up gives her the perfect chance to get Katie Taylor revenge.

The Finn has been confirmed as the latest challenger to Taylor’s WBA and IBF world lightweight titles and will fight her old foe at the Madison Square Garden Arena in New York on December 15th.

It will be the fifth time the reigning WBC champion at super featherweight will share a ring with the Irish sporting legend, but the first time as a pro.

Wahlström lost in each of their previous bouts, twice in major championships, but believes that the change of code can help bring around a change in result and a win over Taylor [11(5)-0]

The 38-year-old WBC super featherweight noted how “I lost to Katie few times in amateur days but I am sure I won her respect anyway.”

“Now in a 10-round pro fight, it will be totally different game with all new avenues to avenge those defeats,” promised Wahlström, a three-time European medallist.

While she thinks the 10-round format may increase her chances of victory, the Baltic boxer is aware she faces the toughest test of her pro career on the Canelo-Fielding undercard clash which will be shown live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

Indeed, Wahlström claims it’s the ultimate challenge and she is delighted to face it down at such an iconic venue.

“I have stated for a longest time that I am ready and I want to engage in toughest fights available,” she continued

“This is the ultimate, biggest and toughest fight anywhere and to have it in the legendary Madison Square Garden is a huge honor.”

The experienced eight-year pro veteran has plenty of respect for Taylor’s ‘do my talking in the ring’ approach, but claims while the pair won’t trade insults they will make up for this when they trade leather next Saturday.

Wahlström outlined how “I have the greatest respect to Katie for how she has remained her respectable, nice, down-to-earth personality despite all the success and fame.”

“Thus, I am not going to do any trash-talking, but I am very ready to do some thrashing in the MSG ring.”
