European Union Championships – Day 2 Results – Day 3 Fixtures

Galway welterweight Kieran Molloy and Dublin heavyweight Kirill Afanasev joined Antrim bantam Kurt Walker in the last eight of the European Union Elite Men’s Championships in Valladolid, Spain yesterday.

All three are now just one win away from guaranteeing a bronze medal.

Molloy was utterly dominant and forced Belgian Ruben Veciunoa into a standing count in the second round en-route to a wide unanimous decision.

Afanasev was a 4-1 split decision winner, outslugging tough Slovak David Michalek to move into medal contention.

“It was a good day getting the two lads through today,” said Irish team manager Stephen Molloy.
