European Women’s Championships – FULL DRAW


The draw has been made for the European Women’s Elite Championships which glove-off in Madrid tomorrow.

No Irish boxers wil be through the ropes on the opening day but the four-strong team will be on the hunt for medals throughout the week in the Spanish capital.

Cavan flyweight Ceire Smith will open Ireland’s campaign at the 12th edition of the championships on Sunday afternoon in the Round of 32 where she will face Hungarian veteran Krisztina Beri.

Ireland’s first medal could come from Roscommon middleweight Aoife O’Rourke who takes on Ukrainian Tetiana Petrovich – a bronze medallist at welterweight in 2016 – in the quarter finals on Monday.

Also on Monday, double European Under-22 gold medallist Amy Broadhurst begins her assault on Elite honours in the lightweight Last 16 where she faces Czech Dominika Ciklova
