Eric Donovan suggests perfect fight for Katie Taylor Manchester Undercard

Eric Donovan [10(6)-0] wants to be a part of Katie Taylor’s big night in Manchester and has the perfect fight in mind.

The Kildare featherweight, a long-time sparring partner of the Wicklow legend, has called for his inclusion on the November 2nd Matchroom bill.

Taylor and Manchester Anthony Crolla share a massive fight card at the city’s Arena and an opportunistic Donovan would like a fight with a recognised name.

‘Lilywhite Lightning’ yesterday responded to a tweet from local lad Ryan Doyle [17(9)-4(4)-1] asking Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn for a slot on the card where Taylor will challenge WBO light welter champ Christina Linardatou.

Doyle did not respond publically to Donovan’s suggestion.

The fighter of Dublin descent is something of a regular on Matchroom cards having recently fought Reece Belotti and Leigh Wood – not to mention engaging in a fire-fight with James Tennyson back in 2017.

34-year-old Donovan, the reigning Irish featherweight champion, is keen to push on in his career.

Currently scheduled to appear on the Slater Sports Consultancy show in Belfast one week before Taylor’s big night, a switch would be easy for the former European and EU bronze medallist.

However, it should be noted, that the Sky Sports and DAZN-broadcast bill in Manchester is rapidly filling up.

Undercard support has already been confirmed in the form of Joshua Buatsi, a Felix Cash v Jack Cullen Commonwealth title fight, Gamal Yafai, and Qais Asfaq.

A rather packed bill, many Irish fighters will be hoping to squeeze on – although many of the Matchroom-affiliated boxers from these shores already look to be accounted for.

Belfast’s Tennyson is provisionally scheduled to box Welshman Craig Evans in London the week before while TJ Doheny and Jono Carroll, have been mooted by Hearn over the past few days for cards in Chicago and Saudi Arabia respectively.
