England team confirmed for International with Ireland

The English team that will face a nine-strong Irish panel at the National Stadium next weekend has been confirmed.

The end-of-season international features three Olympic boxers from Ireland, and also sees Kelly Harrington make the move down to lightweight.

At flweight, Belfast Olympian Brendan Irvine will take on Ishmail Khan from the KBW Boxing Club in Dewsbury. Khan was runner-up in this year’s English Championships.

Monaghan bantamweight Stevie Quinn, the reigning Irish light flyweight champion, is up against Louie Lynn from Lynn ACBC in London, who himself is stepping up from flyweight.

George Bates is up against English lightweight runner-up Cory O’Regan of the Bradford Police and Community College BC.

Moving up to light welter, European Games bronze medalist Sean McComb takes on Mason Smith of the famous Finchley ABC, who was this year’s English runner-up.

Newry middleweight Conor Wallace fights Lewis Richardson of Centurions BC in Colchester.

Two-time World Championships medalist Joe Ward will fight George Crotty of the Royal Marines.

Kilkenny heavy Darren O’Neill looks to have the toughest task, facing reigning English champion Cheavon Clarke of Gravesham ABC.

Kelly Harrington will face Bury ABC’s Sarah Dunn on her move down to lightweight.

Recent European Championships bronze medalist Christina Desmond will face a to-be-confirmed opponent.
