Eddie Hearn reveals surprising return fight for Jono Carroll

Eddie Hearn has revealed that Jono Carroll is likely to make his return to the ring next month – in Mexico.

The Dublin super featherweight valiantly challenged IBF champion Tevin Farmer in March, losing a relatively competitive unanimous decision.

Carroll [16(3)-1(0)-1] won fans with his full-on performance in Philadelphia and the Matchroom fighter will return to North America as he continues to be built on the DAZN platform.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has stated that ‘King Kong’ will probably box again on Saturday August 24th at the Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Sonora.

The mooted fight, for which there has not yet been mention of an opponent, would take place on the undercard of Juan Francisco Estrada’s WBC super flyweight title defence versus Dewayne Beamon.

Speaking to iFL TV in Dallas, Hearn said that “Jono Carroll is probably going to go on that card.”

27-year-old Carroll has been back in training in Marbella the past couple of weeks.

The Finglas-born, Dunshaughlin-raised character had mentioned Scott Quigg as a potential opponent after the English boxer’s bold call for a super featherweight world title fight but this match-up would seem very unlikely for a comeback bout.

Carroll is currently ranked #10 with the IBF.

The undercard in Mexico is also set to feature Croatian heavy Filip Hrgovic, Shakhram Giyasov, Diego Pacheco, and Alexis Espino.
