Jono Carroll [17(3)-1(0)-1]versus Scott Quigg [35(26)-2(0)-2] is still on the agenda.

The fight looks likely to still play out just at a later than initially planned.

Fight fans got extremely excited when the Ireland versus England bout was confirmed for the Andy Ruiz Jr and Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight rematch.

‘King Kong’ and Quigg were set to trade leather in Saudi Arabia on December 7 until Quigg was forced out through injury.

The Freddie Roach trained Bury native suffered a recurrence of an elbow injury that had him sideline for a year.

When confirming the pull out Quigg did state he hoped it would be rescheduled.

“I’m absolutely gutted as I was ready to get back in the ring and lock horns with Jono. Hopefully this fight can be rescheduled for next year in the first quarter of the year. I’ll be ready to get back in the ring. Thanks for all the continued support.”

Eddie Hearn is of the same thinking. The Matchroom boss has revealed the fight will still go ahead putting forward January or February of next year as a potential time frame.

“He’s had an elbow injury. It’s the same elbow he injured before. He’s been out for over a year. We are going to reschedule that fight for January or February and we are going to replace that fight potentially with Dillian Whyte.”

For Carroll it means he will miss the chance to show his entertaining wares on a massive heavyweight card with world wide appeal.

However, in terms of world title ambitions and selling yourself to boxing fans, Quigg looks an ideal dance partner. The Dublin southpaw probably feels he is best served waiting for the Quigg clash rather than fighting a lesser name in December.

Speaking about what Quigg can do for him when the fight was officially announced the Spain based Irish fighter said,

“In a way, this is even bigger than my world title fight,” said Carroll.

“People didn’t know Farmer in Ireland until I fought him but everyone knows Quigg because Frampton fought him. It’s a huge card and a great opportunity to show the world the best of me.”
