Eddie Hearn reveals details of headline act Katie Taylor’s next fight

Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] will fight for the first time since becoming undisputed lightweight champion on the world on November 2.

The WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO world champion will trade leather in England against a yet to be confirmed opponent on the top of her own card.

The Matchroom fighter became the first ever female to top a Sky Sports broadcast boxing card when she defeated American Jessica McCaskill at York Hall, London last December.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Eddie Hearn today confirmed Taylor will return to the top of the bill in two months time.

The Matchroom boss revealed the fight will play out in the England, which will prompt suggestions of a return to the York Hall and in London is on the cards.

November would certainly be too soon for Amanda Serranno, who fights Heather Hardy in New York on September 13, plus New York is the ideal venue for that ‘mega fight’.

A move up in weight and a fight with McCaskill has been discussed, but it would appear the plan is to keep that rematch with the now unified light welterweight world champion for a second undisputed fight.

The Delfine Persoon return is being left to build until next year and, despite her calls for it, Chantelle Cameron is not believed to be on the immediate radar.

WBO light welterweight champion Christina Linardatou and her team have told Irish-BIxing.com that they have been contacted with regard to being the next Taylor foe, but revealed they were not happy with the initial offer.

“We were made a let’s say economical offer – can you hear the sarcasm?- to fight Katie but that was over a month ago. Of course it’s a fight we are interested in but the numbers have to be proper,” ‘Medusa’s’ manager Brian Cohen told Irish-Boxing.com last month.

Still the Dominican Republic-born Greek native looks the most likely as Taylor looks to create more history by becoming a two weight world champion.

Regardless of opponent, it will be just the second time a female tops a Sky Sports card and the Olympic gold medal winner and undisputed lightweight world champion will bring another busy year to an end with a fight closer to home.
