Victory over the world champion they call ‘Medusa’ will set up a real ‘monster year’ for Katie Taylor predicts Eddie Hearn.

The undisputed lightweight champion of the world could become only the third Irish fighter to hold world titles in two weights if she manages to defeat WBO light welterweight world champion Christina Linardatou in Manchester this Saturday night.

Register that success and the Bray native could begin a two weight undisputed journey.

However, it appears the focus may shift from trinkets to opponents with Team Taylor eyeing 2020 ‘Mega’ fights.

The ‘biggest fight in women’s boxing’, a meeting of Taylor and seven weight world champion Amanda Serrano looks likely for the spring.

A rematch with June 1 Maddison Square Garden opponent Delfine Persoon should follow in the Summer, before a possible pound for pound top of the three clash.

The third fight of 2020 at first looked likely to be against Jessica McCaskill, the hope being the unified WBO and WBA light welterweight champion would win the IBF strap before having an undisputed 140lbs clash with the Brian Peters managed London 2012 Olympic gold medal winner.

However, now that undisputed welterweight champion and some people’s pound for pound #1 Cecilia Braekhus has teamed up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom a massive fight between undisputed champions is a big 2020 possibility.

With potential fights on the horizon against undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus, seven-weight champion Amanda Serrano and a rematch with Persoon, Hearn believes next year will be a ‘Monster’ year for the ground breaking star.

“Cecilia Braekhus is at 147lbs and Katie is now boxing at 140, but is pushing herself to get there, so we have to have that conversation with Cecilia to see how far she will come down in the weight classes, will she come to 140 or could she get to 142?” said Hearn.

“But two undisputed champions together is the kind of thing we want.
