Dunne: Quigg got his tactics right, but waited too long

Former WBA super bantamweight champion of the World Bernard Dunner claims the unification bout between Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg played out just as he thought.

The Dubliner, and last consistent deliverer of big Dublin fight nights, backed Frampton to win and suggested Quigg would be tentative and safe early on.

Indeed Dunne, who retired in 2009 at just 29, believes Quigg’s start slow tactic was the correct one, however he claims the Bury man should have upped the pace earlier than round 6.

“It went as I thought it would. I thought Frampton would win the early rounds easy,” said Dunne.

“I didn’t think Quigg would leave it as long to engage. I thought he should have engaged probably around, Round 3 or 4, really started to put pressure on.

“I think he got his tactics right in terms of waiting to engage, but he just waited too long.”
