Dunlop: Hyland should be ranked 1 among Irish lightweights-we want Irish title

PAUL Hyland is the hottest prospect in Irish boxing’s hottest division claims Mark Dunlop.

With Declan Geraghty, Ciaran Bates, Mark Morris, Fergal McCrory at the weight and the likes of Jono Carroll capable of competing at the weight their are a number of early stages pros for Irish fight fans to keep an eye on.

However, Dunlop claims it’s ‘Hylo’ time and he feels his charge is the best of potential packed pack.

Indeed, the most prolific promoter in Ireland plans to put the well supported Hyland on top of his next bill and has Irish title aspirations for the undefeated fighter.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com after Hyland was involved in an entertaining scrap with Ivans Levickis Dunlop said,

“That was a top class performance and this kid is top class. Every time I step him up he never lets me down. That win will take him to number 15 in the UK lightweight rankings, a division which is rammed and after that win if he is not ranked above any of these Irish kids in the BUI rankings I will be very disappointed.

“That kid came to win and comes with a good record they all after to be fearing this kid for lightweight titles no doubt about it.

“You have seen him progress all the time. Every fight he is being stepped up and the quality of opponents have got better. He has seven fights and three or four have been against fighters with winning records and he has beaten a fighter with an undefeated record. Tell me any other fighter who has done that after seven fights,” he added.

“We are going for the Irish title. I told you before I like to rotate my fighters giving them all a chance to top a bill and I am telling you now it will be Hylo time next. This kid deserves his chance. He has been under the radar, but he deserves his chance now.”
