Dublin show hit by late Headline Fight change
The Assassin Boxing ‘Rise Again’ card this Saturday night in Dublin has been hit by a late change of main event.
The bill at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght was due to be headlined by a guaranteed war between Cork’s Vladimir Belujsky and Liverpudlian Nick Quigley for the vacant BUI Celtic middleweight title.
Sadly, Belujsky has been forced to pull out of the eight-round title fight.
The Slovak Rebel fractured a scaphoid bone in his hand on Friday which was confirmed by doctors on Tuesday.
Belujsky [5(5)-1(0)-1] was keen to remain in the match-up but has been pulled by his team.
Quigley [15(3)-4(2)], too, is off the card but a further title fight is planned for him next month.
A devastated Belujsky told Irish-Boxing.com that “I still wanted to fight but there was a 99% chance I’d damage it so bad that I’d be out for six months which just wasn’t worth it.”
Quigley, for what it’s worth, questioned the Mitchelstown youngster’s injury saying “I got the news that my opponent has pulled out with a broken hand – which I don’t believe.”
“This boxing game can be heart breaking at times.”
Headline duties in Tallaght this weekend now fall to Kildare super feather Allan Phelan [9(6)-3(1)-1].
‘The Young Wolf’ steps up to eight rounds on the card seeking Irish title eligibility and faces ultra-durable Pole Damian Lawniczak [5(0)-27(3)-1].
That bout will now be for the International Masters Silver belt.
A fourteen-fight undercard features six-rounders for John Joyce, Dylan Moran, Paul Hyland Jr, Feargal McCrory, and Lynn Harvey, fours for Cillian Reardon, Craig McCarthy, Owen Duffy, and Johnny Corcoran, and debuts for Stephen Webb, Martin Wall, Francy Luzoho, Eddie Treacy, and Paddy Nevin.
