Double Dublin fight card news

There is a busy month or so coming up in the capital.

The National Stadium in Dublin has two fight dates scheduled and the past weekend has seen an addition to one card and a withdrawal from another.

First, on Saturday September 9th, Boxing Ireland Promotions and Tony Davitt run ‘Celtic Clash 3,’ a bumper fight bill that looks set to break the record, set in May with Celtic Clash 2, for the most amount of fights on an Irish card.

However, the show has been hit by the withdrawal of one of its major names. Dublin light welter Stephen Carroll [7(1)-0] was due to fight in a six-rounder but will now no longer appear.

The Ballyfermot boxer explained that “I’ve pulled myself from the show.”

“I cant train during the day and, as I don’t make enough to pay a trainer to train me at 6AM when it suited me best to train, this is my only option.”

“If you know me, I won’t fight unless I’m fit and ready. You probably saw from my last fight I didn’t get going till the third round. This is the effect of not having a trainer or pad man to have you sharp and ready.”

“I need changes before I get my head back in the game.”

In more positive news, Dublin welter Karl Kelly has secured himself a debut date.

An experienced amateur and semi-pro fighter, the Jay Byrne-managed Kelly will make his professional bow on the Red Corner Promotions bill at the National Stadium on Saturday October 7th.

Known as an explosive knockout puncher, Kelly is promising excitement.
