Dream Team – Jason Quigley discusses Andy Lee coaching move

Jason Quigley [16(11)-1(1)] has hailed the ‘good chemistry’ between himself and new coach Andy Lee.

Former WBO middleweight champion of the world Lee confirmed on Off the Ball’s Off the Brawl yesterday that the pair have been working together as coach and trainer and that that will remain the case up and until Quigley makes a December return at the very least.

The Golden Boy 160lbs fighter had hinted at changes post his ninth round stoppage defeat to Tureano Johnson back in July – and it has this week emerged the former Manny Robles trained fighter has left Dominic Ingle to train in Ireland with Limerick’s Lee.

The Donegal man is delighted with the move and with how things have worked so far.

Former Manny Steward and Adam Booth trained fighter, Lee suffered a similar set back at the same stage of his career and 28-year-old, Quigley notes how he has been able to tap into that experience too.

“Andy has had a similar career to me and I’m delighted to start working with him,” Quigley said.

“Andy moved on from a set-back to become a world champion. Andy has a great boxing brain and is very intelligent inside and outside the ring. I’ve only been working with him a short while, but we’ve got a good chemistry.

“I can’t wait to let go in the ring now. I’m delighted and excited what we can create as a team.”

Although he has been public about how happy he is with life in general, Quigley has been doing some soul searching of late.

However, the World Championship silver medal winner doesn’t want to dwell on the Johnson setback for long.

Quigley is keen to get back to winning ways a to regain forward momentum. The talk is he will return to the ring in California in December and the Ulster man is keen to get motoring again.

“I don’t want to sit on that defeat too long. The best fighters have all been defeated,” he added.

“The great thing about boxing is that one fight can change a career. I want to get the ball rolling again and start climbing to where I belong.

“I know that I have the talent, the heart and the desire – and I want to push on and be the best I can be.

“My management team, Sheer Sports Management, and my promotor, Golden Boy, have been brilliant for me and I’m looking to get in there again and show what I can do.”
