Eric Donovan [10(6)-0] will from giving instructions tonight to carrying them out tomorrow as he double fight jobs this weekend.

The former amateur standout and current Irish featherweight champion will work the corner in the National Stadium tonight before attempting to work his magic inside the ring in Glasgow on Saturday.

The first of two big fights for the multi-tasker takes place tonight as he tries to help Jude Gallagher secure flyweight Elite final success.

Gallagher, who has been working with Donovan one on one for two months, takes on Regan Buckley live on TG4.

Post that fight it’s straight over to Scotland and Glasgow where the skilled talent will be looking to extend his unbeaten run.

It’s fresh scenery for the Kildare favourite, but there remains a degree of same old story surrounding the fight.

The former standout amateur is big fight and big name keen, but takes on an opponent he is relatively unaware of.

There is a sense progression with regard to a breakthrough chance is being made, but you do sense some frustration from the 33-year-old.

Although he is planning to enjoy Scotland.

“I’m really looking forward to the weekend, my opponent is a Nicaraguan that’s all I know. I haven’t seen him but I know he’s been used as a stepping stone for a lot feather and super featherweight boxers,” Donovan told Irish-boxing.com before commenting on the potential atmosphere.

“It should be a great carnival atmosphere in Glasgow City on this particular day because Celtic play at 3pm, I’m on about 8-9pm and the Wolfe Tones are on around 10pm. I have about 40 travelling, so that’s not too bad this side of Christmas,” he continues before trying to push a few more tickets.

“I do hope I can bring a few more in on the night, my fiancee will have tickets if anyone wants to support me. Just get in touch through social media. I could really do with shifting about another 10 tickets to cover all expenses so if anyone is in Glasgow/Scotland 23rd please help a brother out.”

No doubt Donovan would prefer to be fighting in Ireland – and he looked primed to front a mini revival when he won the Irish title live on TG4 – but finance has made running shows outside of Belfast difficult for his promoters Boxing Ireland.

Belfast will always be an option, but Scotland could prove a gateway to some career enhancing title fights.

The likes of Keane McMahon and Dylan McDonagh have been in Scottish hosted title fights this year, whilst Jay Bryne became BBBofC champion thanks to his connections to Sam Kynoch and the Scots.

It’s something Donovan would be open too.

“I hope so, I’m always hoping for a break. So if Scotland brings about that opportunity then that would be fantastic. “
