Donovan confident he could compete with Warrington, Galahad and the likes

Eric Donovan believes he is ready for the big fights he feels are coming his way.

Having endured a difficult 2018 the Kildare fighter has picked up domestic honours in terms of the Irish title and is said to be closing in on an European featherweight title fight.

Indeed, the Athy favourite came close to fighting for the vacant EBU strap around the time he made his London debut on the York Hall Irish Invasion card last month- and it’s believed he could be in the frame to face Carlos Ramos in Spain-based Ecudorian first defense, while there has been faint talk of a tilt at it’s little brother the EU title.

The European title has always been the goal for the late to turn over former amateur standout, but having seen Josh Warrington and Kid Gallahad battle it out for the IBF world title, the Kenneth Egan trained fighter believes he could compete at world level.

Warrington Gallahad

Securing a world title shot would be further down the road for the Boxing Ireland fighter, but the European title would help in that regard – and if he was to secure a shot Lillywhite Lightening didn’t see anything that would worry him in one of the more recent of featherweight world title fights.

“The fights are becoming thick and fast and the big guys are coming close as well,” he told Off The Ball.

“The kind of confidence and belief I have in myself, I look at Kid Galahad vs Josh Warrington the other night in the world title fight.

“They’re my weight category. I don’t see anything from either of those that would bother me or not want me to step into the ring and fight either of them. That’s the confidence I have in myself. I believe I’m an elite level fighter.”
