DOJ in Dubai – Joyce aiming for Arabian breakthrough

Davey Oliver Joyce [9(7)-0] plans to make the most of his big chance this Friday afternoon in the United Arab Emirates.

The Mullingar featherweight tops the first bill of the recently announced Top Rank and MTK Global partnership, facing skilful Scot Stephen Tiffney for the WBO European title.

The fight takes place at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai and will be shown live in American on the ESPN+ app and Joyce is aiming to impress.

A win on Friday should see the Rio Olympian be rewarded with a WBO ranking and is a first step on the road towards champion Oscar Valdez.

Joyce isn’t thinking too far ahead but knows the importance of getting his name out there.

The triple EU gold medallist explained how “I don’t look at rankings or call people out. I’m not that sort of guy. I just want big fights in the future and I know this one opens a lot of doors for me.”

“It’s all about getting your name out there and my team at MTK Global has been phenomenal in doing that for me.”

It’s a cosmopolitan card which Joyce tops, with fighters from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Australia, and the Middle East among those featuring on the bill.

The second Irishman to fight in the UAE after Rohan Daté hopes to win favour with the fans on the night, Irish or otherwise.

Joyce notes how “this is a quality card. The people want to see talented fighters and after they see how exciting this sport is, they’re going to be hungry to see more.”

“I don’t think it’ll be too long before you see a world title fight in Dubai because people are going to love boxing.”

“For the Irish fans in Dubai – come and watch ‘The Punisher’ and see what I’ve got in the bag. Get behind me and support me in one of the best places in the world!

“I can’t wait to put on a showcase for them and everyone in Dubai, live on ESPN+ and iFL TV. It doesn’t get any better than that.
