DiBella questions Taylor’s power whilst billing Serrano as the biggest puncher in female boxing

 

Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] is no super woman and a lack of power might prove her kryptonite warns Amanda Serrano [36(27)-1-1] promoter Lou DiBella.

If seven division world champ manages to defeat Heather Hardy in a massive all Brooklyn world title fight at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater’s tonight, she will be contractually obliged to fight the undisputed lightweight world champion.

‘The Mega fight’ is a one the Puerto Rican has blown hot and cold on over the last 12 months or so. However, it’s a fight she has always claimed she is confident of winning.

Her promoter, DiBella, who also works with the Bray fighters most likely November 2 opponent, WBO light welterweight champion Cristina Linardatou as well as Ireland’s Joe Ward, is equally as confident.

The New Yorker has questioned the trail blazing female athlete’s natural power and warns that is something Serrano has in abundance.

In fact for Taylor to defeat the Brooklyn based fighter, who has won world titles as high as light welter and as low as super flyweight, DiBella suggests she will have to take the power of one of the biggest punchers women’s boxing has seen.

“You saw that level in the Katie, Persoon fight. Obviously Katie is a better boxer, more polished,” said DiBella when speaking to Irish press recently.

“Katie is the best pure boxer,” he added. “If you look at anything in Katie’s armour as an issue, she doesn’t have a lot of power.

“So I think she [Taylor] is not on an island [out on her own],” said DiBella. “She’s a tremendous boxer but as you saw with Persoon, she is not undefeatable,” he adds before praising his fighter.

“I’ll tell you this. Amanda and Katie is a tremendous fight. It really is. I have never promoted a woman or even seen a woman with the punching power of Amanda pound for pound. She is the biggest puncher in women’s boxing I’ve ever seen.”
