Derry’s Coyle progresses to last 16 of the Commonwealth Games

CONNOR Coyle joined joined Ruairi Dalton, Joe Fitzpatrick, Sean Duffy, Sean McGlinchy and Michael Conlan in the last 16 of the Commonwealth Games.

The Derry fighter won out over Guyana’s Dennis Thomas, getting the nod on the three judges’ scorecards.

The 25 year old made an impressive start to his second fight in the competition and took the first round on all three judges scorecards.

Thomas took the second stanza as Coyle took his foot off the gas, but Coyle finished strong in third and deservedly progress to one win away from a medal.

The St Joseph’s ABC clubman takes on South African, Siphiwe Lusizi in the last eight bout on Wednesday evening.
