Dennis Hogan not bothered by Munguia-GGG talk – Has his own future plans

Dennis Hogan [28(7)-1(0)-1] has no issue with Jaime Munguia talking about talking about mega fights with the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez before they have shared a punch this weekend because he has future plans of his own.

Some found it disrespectful – and some encouraging – that Hogan and the pair’s WBO light middleweight world title fight wasn’t the sole topic of conversation during the build up to the fight tomorrow night at the Arena Monterry.

Mungiua [32(26)-0] and his team were happy to talk about the other champions at the weight, inform the world’s press that the 22-year-old was ready for Golovkin, and wax lyrical in regard to how big a Mexican stand-off with Canelo would be.

The extremely focused challenger was never going to let that talk disturb him but while enforcing the point he is only focused on what he has to do this weekend, he admitted he couldn’t get upset with the giant for the weight champ as he too has dreams and even plans beyond tomorrow night in Mexico.

As revealed by Irish-Boxing.com last year, Team Hogan hope to bring Hogan home if he defeats the busy champion in Mexico on Saturday night.

DDP Sports have looked into a possible late summer homecoming and see Cork’s Spike O’Sullivan, who is a Golden Boy stablemate of Munguia, as the perfect opponent.

Speaking on Newstalk 106FM’s Off The Brawl this week the Brisbane-based Kildare fighter confirmed that that a historic first ever all-Irish world title fight is something he wants and is on his to do list.

After quite intelligently understanding and explaining that Munguia was only fielding questions on some of the names around the weight Hogan rationalized: “he said himself he is focused on me, which I know he is. You have to be if your a proper professional your always about your fight at hand, but you can always be about the bigger picture.”

“I am about the bigger picture too.”

“Spike O’Sullivan in the 3Arena and a homecoming is on my mind. Obviously I am not overlooking Munguia and I don’t feel disrespected in anyway.”

“This is a business and everyone is always looking to see what the biggest fight is and where the biggest money is. Just like Munguia was over a year ago, I am now looking to burst onto the scene and become a champion,” he added before discussing a possible fight with the Cork’s O’Sullivan [30(21)-3(2)].

“I have said it before and I’ll say it now. I really like Spike and I have been following him ever since we sparred back in 2015,” explained Hogan.

“My dream leaving Ireland back in 2011 was to win the world title and come back and defend it. That has been my dream all along. I have visualized every single day. Now with Spike down to super welterweight we can make history”.

“Two Irish fighters fighting for the world championship in Ireland. It doesn’t get any better than that. It would be perfect for a late summer’s evening in late 2019. I am certainly gearing for it so hopefully we can make it happen.”
