The Boxing World Reacts to Dennis Hogan’s controversial World Title loss to Jaime Munguia
Dennis Hogan was denied the greatest win in Irish boxing history yesterday night but his plight did not go unnoticed.
The Brisbane-based Kildare light middleweight looked to have outfought reigning WBO champion Jaime Munguia at the Arena Monterrey but would lose a highly controversially majority decision on the scorecards.
Hogan and his team disagreed with the verdict, believing he had won, as did the Australian and Irish media – and we weren’t alone.
Some big names from the world of boxing felt Hogan had done enough.
Wow Waleska Roldan should never judge another fight!! 116-112 for Mungaia??? @jaimemunguia15 lost this fight

IBF and WBA light middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd was chronicling the fight via the ‘stories’ on his Instagram account @swift_jarretthurd.
When the verdict was read out he exclaimed “Man, that is bullshit, I’m telling you!” before further expressing his annoyance on the DAZN feed.

I am extremely proud of Dennis Hogan. What a performance in enemy territory!
Best case for Munguia is 6 rounds each. I believe it was at minimal a draw. REMATCH! #munguiahogan #rematch… https://t.co/TvdG7uCDIr

Please don’t Take this from hogan

Indeed, away from Irish and Aussie reporters, the international boxing media largely backed Hogan.
114-114, 115-113 and 116-112 for Jaime Munguia. I disagree with this decision. I think most do. But Munguia’s team, if they are honest, they need to treat this as a loss and really have some honest conversations about this… #boxing

Let’s not talk about Jaime Munguia fighting Canelo before 2021 or so. All of his flaws were exposed tonight against Dennis Hogan, who might have won that fight. Munguia is reckless. Has to clean that up.

Well we know Dennis Hogan’s name now. Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions and Jaime Munguia should do the right thing and make an immediate rematch. Let’s see if Munguia can show improvement. #HoganMunguia #MunguiaHogan #JaimeMunguia #DennisHogan #boxing #MonteroOnBoxing pic.twitter.com/sweiIpS5cx

Jaime Munguia def. Dennis Hogan via majority decision 114-114, 115-113 & 116-112. WTF!!!!! Robbery!!
— Andreas Hale (@AndreasHale) April 14, 2019
I gave it to Dennis Hogan by one round.

Boxing is at it again. No way Jaime Munguia beat Dennis Hogan. Had Hogan winning 115-113, but it didn’t feel that close late.

And, of course, Hogan’s fellow Irish boxers had their say.
Having a bad day ?
Think about @dennis_h_hogan who gave a masterclass performance against d world champ in Mexico last night. A performance that should have put him in the history books as one of the greatest away wins of any boxer ever! The crooks of the game took it front him👎🏻— Eric Lilywhite Lightning Donovan (@eric_donovan60) April 14, 2019
Sick for @dennis_h_hogan getting robbed in Mexico but very proud at same time beating an elite World Champion in his back yard. Proof again that hard work and belief can take you anywhere. I hope he gets the rematch and paid well for it. @GoldenBoyBoxing at least owe him that 🍀 https://t.co/FzpaCpsRM3

Gutted for @dennis_h_hogan. He worked he’s ass off in there. And in my eyes won the fight. Beat the Mexican in he’s own back yard. Proved everyone wrong he can mix it with the best. I’m sure if u get the rematch that there is no doubt u will get revenge.
