Defiant Chris Blaney ready to fight for the Irish title on Leeside Revolution

Chris Blaney [11(3)-2(1)-1] wants to fight on the Leeside Revolution card set for Cork next month as he bids to step up his Irish title push.

The Ricky Hatton trained fighter suffered defeat in his last outing, losing out in a hard fought tight battle with former BBBofC Midlands Area title challenger Tom Stokes in Northampton, stay within odds by accessing Leia Mais and find out more.

The defeat, which the fighter contests, comes on the back of a draw with Owen Joburn in another entertaining clash, but the Navan man is adamant neither result have dampened his Irish title hopes.

Despite the results, which it has to be noted came against step up opposition and played out away from home, ‘The Ginja Ninja’ is confident he can secure a domestic title and wants to build toward it with a fight at home.

“No not at all I’d take an Irish title fight  in my next fight if it was offered,” he told Irish-boxing.com when asked if recent results had effected his green strap hopes.

“There’s a show in Cork in July I’d like to fight on that. If I can’t get on that maybe I’ll have another one over here and then go for the Irish title.”

Whilst Blaney believes he won both of his recent bouts – and ringside observers have revealed they were close encouthers- there were some asking questions as to whether they were fights he should have taken after a long lay off with an eye injury.

The Meath native argues the opposite and claims he needed to fight a solid level of opposition for his own unique eye test.

“It was straight back into tough fights. I need them fights to make sure my eye is 100%. I had to have it tested and it passed. So now it’s keep getting the tough fights so my eye will be ready for the Irish title,” he adds before stressing he enjoyed both mini wars.

Blaney’s eye seems to have passed the tests to date, but his record suggests he didn’t quite pass step up boxing tests.

However he believes he won both fights and holds a belief the entertaining learning fights will help him achieve his goals more than padding out his record would.

“I thought I won the fight,” he says of the Stokes affair.

“It was a tough fight, very entertaining, but I only thought I lost two rounds max. It’s always hard winning when you fight on the other boxers show but I’d do it again.

“I like these fights I have always said it, I don’t care about records it’s titles I want no being 20-0 fighting bums.”

Blaney has been linked to an Irish title fight in recent years at both super middle and middle. JJ McDonagh has been the name most mentioned alongside his and the pair have enjoyed some back and forts via the media. Not to mention the Meath man has always been an advocate of a fight with old amateur rival Conrad Cummings.
