Declan Geragthy makes shock return live on BBC tonight

Declan Geraghty [18(4)-4(3)] makes a surprise return to the ring tonight.

‘Pretty Boy’ will fight in Scotland on a the undercard of British bantamweight title fight between Glasgow pair Ukashir Farooq and Duane Winters.

Geraghty will fight Naheem Chaudhry [2(10-51(0)-1], who was last seen taking Armagh’s Sean Duffy the distance at the Falls Park, live on BBC Scotland.

It’s the Dubliner’s first fight since he suffered a fourth career defeat in May. The stylish southpaw suffered heartbreaking all Irish reverse for the third time as he was stopped by Marco McCullough at the Ulster Hall.

The Belfast fighter’s reward looks to be another big fight when boxing returns to the iconic venue on October 11, but there were questions as to what was next for Geraghty.

Some suggested having lost to Jono Carroll, James Tennyson and then McCullough the two weight National amateur champion may retire.

That thought seemed to cross the 29-year-old’s mind in the immediate aftermath of the result, but it wasn’t long after that he was calling out Archie Sharp [16(8)-0] via Irish-boxing.com and stating his desire to fight on.

In that regard the fact he returns to the ring isn’t surprising, but the fact he does so tonight is.

The first the majority of the fight fraternity heard of the bout was hours before it was set to play out.

There was no fight announcement, it still hasn’t been confirmed on Boxrec and the usually good self promoter hadn’t mentioned until late this evening.

The fact Geraghty takes on journey man opposition suggests he didn’t get a late call, rather he elected to keep his ring return quiet.

While it’s not the biggest of fights, Geraghty does have the added bonus of his bounce back clash being broadcast by BBC Scotland, meaning ‘Pretty Boy’ will gain significant exposure in Scotland.

Gergahty kicks off the TV portion of the card at 8:45 – to watch CLICK HERE.
